Foul Ball Hits Fan In The Head At Cubs And Pirates Game

In a scary moment during yesterday’s Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates game, a fan was hit in the head by a foul ball while walking to her seat directly behind home plate. It all happened when Pirates starting pitcher, A.J. Burnett, threw a pitch to Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro.

The batter took a nice cut at the ball, which shot back behind the plate. Unfortunately, the fan was walking too close to the netting, which is designed to stop foul balls from hitting spectators, and was struck in the head. The contact caused the fan to collapse.

Afterwards, the game was delayed for 23 minutes and the fan was removed on a stretcher, according to Pirates reporter Travis Sawchik.

“She was conscious and alert at the time of transport, graciously thanking her caregivers while giving a ‘thumbs up’ gesture to nearby fans,” the Pirates stated in a press release. “Our thoughts and prayers are with her.”
