Dr. Anthony Fauci Warns MLB Season May Have To Be Stopped

It has been a disastrous first week back to play for the MLB. A few days after games began more than a dozen members of the Marlins team and staff tested positive for COVID-19, which caused their game against the Orioles to be canceled and the Yankees-Phillies game to be delayed since the Marlins had just played in against the Phillies. This caused many to doubt if the MLB could continue and finish the season.

On Tuesday’s Good Morning America, Dr. Anthony Fauci said, ”Major League Baseball – the players, the owners, the managers – have put a lot of effort into getting together and putting protocols that we feel would work. It’s very unfortunate what happened with Miami.’

Fauci added that this outbreak could cause play to be stopped and in all likelihood end any chance of baseball happening this year, but he stressed that it is not at that point yet. In response to the outbreak, MLB commissioner, Rob Manfred took his usual disturbingly lax view of the issues with the restart telling the MLB Network, ”Obviously, we don’t want any player to get exposed. It’s not a positive thing,”  Manfred said. ”But I don’t see it as a nightmare. … We think we can keep people safe and continue to play.”

Sorry to inform Mr. Manfred, but this is a nightmare. This is, within reason, the worst possible way that the season could have started and being less than a week it feels like we are one more major outbreak like the Marlins one away from the MLB season being canceled for good.
