Former NFL MVP Cam Newton announced in a video published on his YouTube channel that he received a COVID-19 vaccine and that he intends on returning to the field.

“Hell yeah I still want to play football,” Newton said in Sunday’s video. “I still get that urge to go out and perform and do something that I’ve been doing since I was 7 years old.”

Newton had been reluctant to get vaccinated, citing “it’s still a personal decision” and that “the side effects weren’t beneficial to [him].”

Head coach Bill Belichick stated that the quarterback’s vaccination status didn’t play a part in the decision to let him go.
