Breaking Dancing Competition Will Be Part Of 2024 Summer Olympics
The International Olympic Committee has announced a new sport that will be added to the 2024 Paris Olympics: breaking which is a form of break dancing.
Breakdancers have long been petitioning to become part of the Olympics. British breakdancer Karam Singh told the BBC, “It’s going to be great for breaking as it gives us more recognition as a sport. And for the Olympics, it will attract young people who may not follow some of the traditional sports.”
Attracting young people to watch the Olympics is exactly what they are trying to do. The IOC is prioritizing sports that would help appeal to younger viewers.
The Olympic committee had recently designated breaking as a provisional sport following an unanimous vote. The USA Breaking Committee has been preparing for the time that breaking became an Olympic sport. The committee had already created a rulebook and scoring guidelines.
