Blackhawks’ Corey Crawford Starts Brawl With Blues’ Robby Fabbri In Playoffs Game 4

Chicago Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford decided to take matters into his own hands in Game 4 of their divisional semifinal against the St. Louis Blues at the United Center in Chicago on Tuesday.

Blackhawks’ Corey Crawford Starts Brawl With Blues’ Robby Fabbri

With around 8:10 left in the second period and the game tied 1-1, Blues forward Robbi Fabbri crashed into Crawford after attempting to get the rebound on a shot, and Crawford did not seem to take it well at all.

After Fabbri appeared to trip over Crawford, the Blackhawks’ Canadian goaltender skated out of his crease, chased Fabbri to the boards and began throwing punches in revenge.

Crawford eventually fell to the ice, his mask coming off in the short-lived brawl that was quickly broken up by the referees. Many of the other players on both teams also seemed to begin fighting, but were also rapidly separated by the officials.

It’s also worth noting that Crawford, 31, is 6-foot-2 and 208 pounds, decidedly bigger than the 5-10, 180-pound Fabbri, 20.

Four penalties ensued from the fight (3 for St. Louis, one for Chicago), including a goaltender interference call on Fabbri and a roughing call on Crawford against Fabbri, which was served by Richard PanikDuncan Keith scored on the ensuing Blackhawks power play to give them a temporary 2-1 lead in the game, but the Blues came away victorious with a 4-3 final score.

This was Crawford’s first penalty in the last 80 playoff games. The Blues now lead the first-round series 3-1.
