Bengals Reportedly Considering Signing Colin Kaepernick

Colin Kaepernick has yet to find a new NFL team, although another squad has emerged as a contender to sign the free-agent quarterback, according to several reports: the Cincinnati Bengals.

Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk reported Sunday that several Bengals players believe the team should seriously consider bringing on the former San Francisco 49ers star. Florio said “the feeling within the locker room, we’re told, is that the leash isn’t quite so long” with regards to quarterback Andy Dalton’s status as Cincinnati’s starter after the team has lost its first two games this season.

Per several reports, there was a bit of a scuffle in the Bengals’ locker room on Thursday following their 13-9 home loss to Houston. Coach Marvin Lewis allegedly found himself forced to fire offensive coordinator Ken Zampese. The firing of Zampese marked the first time in the team’s 50-year history that an offensive coordinator was fired during the season, according to CBS.

Bill Lazor has now replaced Zampese. A.J. McCarron is currently the Bengals’ backup quarterback.

According to FOX’s Jeremy Rauch, fans were loudly chanting “Let’s trade Dalton!” during Cincinnati’s 20-0 season-opening home loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 10.

Dalton threw for zero touchdowns and four interceptions in the first two losses, although the offensive line struggled overall. Dalton took five sacks against Baltimore.

The Bengals next visit the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

Kaepernick played 12 games last season and finished with 16 touchdown passes and four interceptions.
