Ben Simmons Passes Physical & Meets With Sixers’ Front Office

After a couple of rocky months of ‘will he, will they’ sources say that Philadelphia’s 76er All-Star guard Ben Simmons passed his physical and had a meeting with the Philadelphia 76ers‘ front office.

Simmons met with Daryl Morey, president of basketball operations for the Philadelphia 76ers, and Elton Brand, general manager of the Philadelphia 76ers, on Tuesday, marking it the first conversation they have had since August. Sources describe the meeting as “brief.”

This news comes as a surprise for many fans as Simmons has been in a standoff with the team, continuously teasing fans with cryptic messages fueling the rumors of his trade, saying he’s willing to sit on the sidelines for a year to be traded and even pushing the Philadelphia 76ers to engage in conversations on trades.

The Sixers have a preseason game on Friday at the Detroit Pistons. It is too early to tell if Simmons will be cleared to play in that game since he has stayed away from the team for the first two weeks in the preseason.

The new NBA health and safety protocols state that a player who is fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and who is entering the team environment for the first time needs to return at least one negative result from a PCR test facilitated by the team before interacting with other players and Tier 1 staffers.

An unvaccinated player must return two negative tests before returning to the facility and must participate in individual workouts where no other player is present. If the player returns two more negative rapid molecular tests, he could then be cleared to interact with teammates and staff.

Simmons will remain ineligible to participate in any team-related activities until Friday.
