Alex Rodriguez
Alex Rodriguez has finally hit his first home run of the spring season. During yesterday’s exhibition game against the Boston Red Sox at George Steinbrenner Field, he slammed a fastball from the Sox’s Brandon Workman.
A-Rod, who is coming off a season long suspension in 2014 and an injury riddled 2013, is having a good spring training. He is batting 5-for-11 and has an average of .455. He even got some time at third base, but will likely serve as the DH for the season: Chase Headley is the head candidate for starting third baseman.
As for the much talked about home run, it was his first since September 2013. “Some of the guys were saying it looked like I didn’t even swing,” Rodriguez told ESPN. “That’s always a good sign for me. It looked like a little pepper swing and the ball jumped pretty good… It is definitely a building block.”

At the same time, Yankees coach Joe Girardi downplayed the event, but looks forward to seeing how Rodriguez could help the team win. “For me, no, for you [the media], probably,” Girardi stated. “When is he going to hit a home run? For me, I look more at the at-bats and how hard he is hitting the ball as opposed if he hits a home run.”
