LeBron James is on the move, and the Philadelphia 76ers have emerged as a serious contender in free agency.

The Philadelphia 76ers have quickly become one of the most talked-about teams in the NBA after reports surfaced that they are aggressively pursuing four-time NBA champion LeBron James in free agency.

LeBron James informed the Los Angeles Lakers he will not return next season, making him the biggest name on the market. Teams such as the Golden State Warriors, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Miami Heat remain in the mix, but the 76ers have emerged as a legitimate contender for James.

James’s interest in Philadelphia likely increased after the Sixers acquired Jaylen Brown, who would be an ideal running mate. The team also signed Anfernee Simons, a veteran guard expected to come off the bench.

Adding James would provide veteran experience and leadership. Health remains a question for Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey—also represented by Klutch Sports, the agency founded by James’s longtime business partner Rich Paul—could help recruit LeBron to Philadelphia.

At 41, LeBron wouldn’t need to carry the offense every night—he could focus on defending, facilitating and using his elite basketball IQ. For now, LeBron remains a free agent, but with the 76ers reportedly making a strong pitch, Philadelphia is one of the most closely watched teams in the race.
