NFL Loosens Production Meeting Restrictions For Tom Brady

The NFL is loosening restrictions that banned Tom Brady from team and coaching production meetings for the 2025 season, a decision ESPN confirmed.

These restrictions, informally dubbed the “Brady Rules,” previously limited Brady’s access because he holds minority ownership of the Las Vegas Raiders. The league implemented these rules to prevent conflicts of interest, restricting access to production meetings and direct pregame preparations with coaches and players.

Brady will be able to attend production meetings alongside head coaches and players remotely, but he is still banned from attending practices at team facilities. The shift follows an exception the NFL made during last year’s Super Bowl LIX, which permitted Brady to attend production meetings despite conflict-of-interest concerns.

During Brady’s first season as a Fox top analyst, play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt would relay information after the meetings to keep the analyst in the loop. The process has introduced additional challenges, which are expected to ease as the policy changes take effect in the 2025 season.

The NFL has not publicly addressed the policy change. Fox Sports has also not released an official statement.

Brady is entering the second season of his 10-year contract with Fox Sports, worth $375 million. He began his broadcasting career one year after retiring from the NFL for a second time, where he played 23 seasons, appeared in 10 Super Bowls and won seven championships with the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The policy changes will grant Brady access similar to that of other network analysts, while still respecting concerns about conflicting interests. This change opens doors for a more flexible integration of former players into broadcasting positions.
