Former NFL quarterback Tarvaris Jackson died Sunday night after he was involved in a car crash in Alabama. He was 36 years old. According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Jackson’s accident occurred when his 2012 Cheverolet Camaro “left the roadway, struck a tree, and overturned.” He was then transferred to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Jackson’s former coach during his four-year stint with the Seahawks, Pete Carroll, reacted to the news on social media offering his condolences. Former teammates also expressed their grief on Twitter, including the Minnesota Vikings, the team Jackson spent the first five years of his career with:

Jackson was originally drafted 64th overall in 2006 by the Vikings. He was utilized as a backup for most of his career in Minnesota, but started 21 regular season games and one playoff game. He later joined Seattle in 2011 and started all 16 games that season, the longest stretch in his career. In 59 career games, Jackson compiled 7,263 passing yards and 39 touchdowns. He was working as a quarterbacks’ coach at Tennessee state before his death and is survived by his wife, Lakitta, and three children, Tarvaris, Takayla and Tyson.
