The cast for ”Space Jam 2” is starting to come together.

The movie which is a sequel to the 1996 film will star Los Angeles Lakers small forward Lebron James. Besides James, several other professional basketball players have been announced to also partake as James’ co-stars. The other professional basketball players include Anthony Davis, James’ new Laker teammate, Chris Paul, Klay Thompson, and Damian Lillard. Diana Taurasi and the Ogwumike sisters, Nneka and Chiney, are three WNBA players who also will star in the movie.

Filming for “Space Jame 2”, has been expected to take place this summer, but with the injury to Klay Thompson, it may be hard to finish filming by the time the NBA season starts in the fall. Thompson suffered a torn ACL during game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors.

Ryan Coogler, who directed the Marvel hit “Black Panther, will serve as the producer on the film. James has also announced that Terence Nance director of the HBO comedy series, Random Acts of Flyness, will serve as the director.

James and his longtime business partner, Maverick Carter, have been in talks with Warner Brothers about doing a “Space Jam” sequel for the last five years. With James’ move to Los Angeles, CA last year to play with the Lakers, the talks were finally able to come into fruition.

Many fans are wondering if Michael Jordan, the star of the original film, will make an appearance in the upcoming sequel. In an interview back in September, Carter said, “Hopefully there will be a role for Michael if he wants it. But Michael Jordan is Michael F*ckin’ Jordan. It doesn’t matter (if James) calls him, he’s gonna do whatever the hell he wants, which he has earned that right to do. LeBron and Michael are not sitting around talking about Space Jam.”
