Kelly Leak had recently been the last baseball player most linked to a hog. This weekend, however, New York Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes purchased a $7,000 pig.
Cespedes,30, recently made big news when he showed up to Mets spring training with a newly-purchased tricked-out motorcycle.
According to ESPN’s Adam Rubin, Cespedes was among several team members who attended the St. Lucie County fair in Florida over the weekend. The event, which was held near the Mets’ spring-training facility, featured a hog competition, and the Cuban star loved it so much that he went both weekend days.
Cespedes reportedly won a “bidding war” for the prize-winning pig, according to a Mets spokesman. The outfielder signed a three-year, $75 million contract in the offseason. The deal will pay him $27.5 million this year, at which point he can exercise an opt-out clause and give free agency another shot in 2017 if he so desires.
