Yasiel Puig’s one-game suspension for making an obscene gesture during a game was rescinded Tuesday, and the Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder will instead make a charitable donation.

Dodgers’ Yasiel Puig Was Suspended For Flipping Off Indians Fans On June 13

Ken Gurnick of MLB.com confirmed Puig’s revoked ban and upcoming donation.

The 26-year-old Cuban-born right fielder was initially suspended for giving Cleveland Indians fans sitting behind home plate at Progressive Field the middle finger after hitting a home run during a game earlier this month.

Puig admitted he believed he had “stooped” to the level of the fans — who booed and heckled him — by responding to their jeers with the gesture.

“It’s something that came out,” Puig said following the game on June 13. “There’s really nothing I can do at this point.”

The outfielder missed Tuesday night’s 4-0 road victory over the Anaheim Angels with hamstring and knee soreness.

This season, Puig has hit 14 home runs with 41 RBI to go with a .251 batting average. It remains unknown which organization he will donate to, but he won’t be the first Dodger to do so: catcher Yasmani Grandal announced Wednesday that he is partnering with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) in a fight against cancer.

Grandal decided to team up with LLS following the recent death of a close friend of him and his wife who was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkin lymphoma. As a way to raise money for the cause, Grandal has released a limited edition shirt that he co-designed with Athletes Brand. The shirt is available for sale on AthletesBrand.com until July 3. The proceeds from the shirt sales will be going toward raising awareness of blood cancers and supporting the week of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

The shirt includes a catcher’s mask with Grandal’s nickname “Yaz.” The catcher is seeking to reach a $2,000 fundraising goal.

The Dodgers (52-27, 1st in NL West) have won seven of their last eight games and next visit the Angels on Wednesday night for the third game of a four-games series.
