This is the second game of a four-game series. Detroit (54-80, .403) won Thursday’s opener 8-7. The Yankees (84-50, .527) are 8.5 games behind the Boston Red Sox (93-42). The Tigers are third in the AL Central, 8.5 games behind second-place Minnesota and 22.5 contests behind division-leader Cleveland.

Luis Severino (17-6, 3.27 ERA) will start for the Yankees against fellow right-hander Jordan Zimmerman (6-6, 4.38 ERA). Severino boasts 189 strikeouts this season, while Zimmerman has struck out 88 batters.
