Reported Yankees Aroldis Chapman Trade For Cubs Gleyber Torres Finalizing Soon
A trade for New York Yankees pitcher Aroldis Chapman and Chicago Cubs shortstop Gleyber Torres is nearly complete according to ESPN. Chapman is the Yankees’ best pitcher with an ERA of 2.01, behind Andrew Miller with an ERA of 1.45. Chapman has 31.1 innings pitched this season.
Chapman served a 30-game suspension at the beginning of the season for domestic violence. The suspension was handed to Chapman by commissioner Rob Manfred for Chapman’s involvement in an incident that occurred last October between him and his girlfriend. Major League Baseball and Major League Baseball Players Association agreed to a domestic violence policy after numerous incidents occurred with NFL players. Chapman did not appeal the suspension to avoid causing distractions for his teammates and bringing more attention to his family.
At just 19-years-old Torres is the Cubs best player, rated the Cubs’ No. 1 prospect on MLB.com, that will provide the Yankees with athleticism. Torres was scratched 20 minutes before first pitch on Sunday when the Cubs took on the Milwaukee Brewers as trade plans were in being made, but he was seen in the dugout the duration of the game.
Wallace Matthews, Yankees beat writer for ESPN.com, thinks the trade is worth it and considering Torres’ abilities he could fit in nicely anywhere between second base to third.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post tweeted that only Chapman would be going to the Cubs, but the Yankees would be receiving four ball players, including Torres and Cubs’ pitcher Adam Warren, in the deal.
