“We had the Chiefs a little higher than the 49ers in our power ratings. You can make a case for either team, and I expect decent, balanced action from the public,” Alan Berg senior oddsmaker for Caesars Sportsbook told ESPN  on January 20. In the history of the league, no Super Bowl has had two teams with seemingly identical odds and only four have had a spread of less than two, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

The Mirage and Caesar books have the underdog 49ers at +100 and the favorite Chiefs listed at -120, according to Forbes, while bookmaker William Hill took a $33,000 early bet on the Chiefs at pick ’em. At Westgate Superbook in Las Vegas, 70% of early bets were on the Chiefs, which doesn’t come as a surprise because they were the favorite to win before the season began, according to ESPN.
