stock car drivers arrested after crash, fight at Anderson Speedway in Indiana
A minor collision during a stock car race at Anderson Speedway in Indiana on Saturday rapidly escalated to become a brawl that led policemen to intervene.
Shawn Cullen, 42, and Jeff Swinford made contact three times on the eight-figure track. On the last crash, Cullen veered off the course and then came to a stop. Swinford then seemed to want to just intentionally crash into Cullen in retaliation but actually went as far as to drive straight over the hood of Cullen’s vehicle!
The two drivers exited their cars and began a fistfight, until officers intervened and handcuffed them. One officer even pulled out his stun gun and tased Cullen, who tumbled to the ground.
According to the Herald Bulletin, Swinford was charged with misdemeanor criminal recklessness, while Cullen was cited for disorderly contact. Swinford spent the night in Madison County Jail and was released on Sunday after posting a $3,000 bond.

Swinford’s most severe sanction, however was that he was banned for life from Anderson Speedway.
“Swinford just got mad and used his car as a weapon. We’ve never had anything like that happen. It’s just beyond my comprehension,” said track owner Rick Dawson. “Swinford will not race at this racetrack as long as I own it, and I plan to own it for a long time.”
This type of incident has occurred in NASCAR, however. In 2010, Carl Edwards intentionally caused Brad Keselowski to wreck at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Edwards was handed a three-race probation for the hit, which caused Keselowski’s car to flip and collide into the catch-fence.
In 2015 in Great Britain, a teenage driver at an MSA Formula event deliberately struck another driver and was subsequently punished with a two-year suspension for his crash into Ricky Collard.
