TORONTO, ONTARIO - AUGUST 17: Brad Marchand #63 of the Boston Bruins celebrates after scoring the go-ahead goal at 11:40 against the Carolina Hurricanes during the third period in Game Four of the Eastern Conference First Round during the 2020 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs at Scotiabank Arena on August 17, 2020 in Toronto, Ontario.
After being down 0-2 heading into the third period of Game Four, the Boston Bruins were seeing their chances of taking a commanding 3-1 lead in their first-round playoff series against the Carolina Hurricanes slip away. But, as we know in sports the momentum and advantage can turn quickly, that’s exactly what happened on Monday night with the Bruins’ scoring four third period goals – two from Jake Debrunsk and one apiece from Brad Marchand and Connor Clifton.
With game five coming on Wednesday night, the Hurricanes will need to make some adjustments if they want to get back in this series. “We weren’t ready to continue to do that dig in that we needed to do – little battles,” Carolina coach Rod Brind’Amour said. “They threw everything at us, and we didn’t have an answer.” While the Bruins and Marchand are looking to build on their momentum after their disastrous performance in the round-robin that kicked off the NHL’s return, “We always say it’s a process and we continue to build every shift,” Marchand said. “That’s what we did. We just continued to impose our will and play our game. And when we play like that, we’re a tough team to play.”
