Former Cal State Bakersfield Assistant Coach Kevin Mays Accused Of Being A ‘Pimp’

Kevin Mays, who was a former assistant coach for the Cal State Bakersfield men’s basketball team, is facing several charges for possession of automatic firearms, possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell and pimping. Mays is currently in jail and awaiting trial.

Mays allegedly worked as a pimp in four different states. Former Cal State Bakersfield head coach Rod Barnes called in a tip in August.

Barnes received an anonymous letter from an alleged victim claiming that Mays “IS TRAFFICKING A GIRL BY THE NAME OF [redacted] HE HAS BEEN TRAFFICKING THIS GIRL SINCE MAY,” Bakersfield police told ESPN.

Barnes gave the letter to the human resources department at Cal State Bakersfield, and it ultimately led to all these charges Mays is facing.

Mays has pleaded not guilty to all charges, and they have given no further comment on the situation. The investigation is still ongoing, and additional charges could be filed.

This led to the school terminating athletic director Kyle Conder shortly after Mays’s arrest. Conder filed a lawsuit against the school, alleging he was fired in August after he reported “potential crimes and misconduct” at the university.

School spokesperson Jennifer Self “strongly denies the claims” made in the lawsuit from Conder, according to ESPN.
