Washington Football Team Names Jason Wright NFL’s First Black Team President

On Monday, the Washington Football Team announced that they were making former NFL running back Jason Wright their new team president. Wright is now the first African-American in NFL history to be named team president. “If I could custom design a leader for this important time in our history, it would be Jason. His experience as a former player, coupled with his business acumen, gives him a perspective that is unrivaled in the league,” Washington Football Team owner Dan Snyder said. “We will not rest until we are a championship-caliber team, on and off the field. Jason has a proven track record in helping businesses transform culturally, operationally and financially. He is a proactive and assertive advocate for inclusion of all people and will set new standards for our organization, and for the league. There could not be a better duo than Jason Wright and Coach Ron Rivera as we usher in a new era for Washington Football.”

This is a great move for the Washington Football Team with Wright being in charge of business operations he will bring them a greater sense of legitimacy, something that the organization has been lacking in the past few decades. This seems like one piece of a bigger reclamation project that the team has been attempting this year in reaction to the BLM movement. Obviously, the biggest change was renaming themselves the Washington Football Team as they look to find a new name after discarding their former racist Redskins. This may be the right step towards seeing more fan seats filled up when the NFL is able to have fans back in stadiums.
