Undefeated Orioles Secure 9-5 Win Over Red Sox At Fenway

Blake Swihart, 24-year-old catcher for the Boston Red Sox, was unable to snag a popup in foul territory along the first-base line in the sixth inning of the Red Sox’s game against the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park on Tuesday night. This was Swhihart’s second missed popup, the first one being a missed pop fly against the Blue Jays in Toronto last weekend.

Undefeated Orioles Secure 9-5 Win Over Red Sox At Fenway

Orioles slugger Mark Trumbo scored a tying home run on the ninth pitch of his at-bat against Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz after fouling off three pitches, the first of three home runs that led the Orioles to a 9-5 victory over the Red Sox. The Orioles are now the only undefeated team in the majors at 7-0.

Boston led 2-0 in the first inning thanks to designated hitter David Ortiz’s two-run homer and then 4-2 in the fifth after Jackie Bradley, Jr. scored on a high, wall-scraping double by Mookie Betts, who scored two batters later on a wild pitch.

However, Baltimore tied the game on Trumbo’s two-run homer and then led thanks to J.J. Hardy’s sacrifice fly, finally extending their lead with a four-run seventh inning. Buchholz gave up five runs in five innings in his second straight rough start, while reliever Robbie Ross Jr. gave up three runs in the seventh. Buchholz was booed by fans as he came off the field.

“I have the best seat in the house,” said Orioles manager Buck Showalter. “It’s a hard place to win a game and they’re going to win a lot of games before the summer is over.”

The Orioles have put up 40 runs in their seven games so far this season, including 13 home runs. They will next replay the Red Sox (3-4) at Fenway Park on Wednesday.
