UFC Star Jon Jones At Peace With Doping Scandals

Jon Jones is pretty much the epitome of a trash human being. Where to start off with him? Well, there’s that time in 2009 he used illegal elbows against Matt Hamill. Or there’s all the times that Jones was caught poking opponents in the eye, a move UFC president Dana White had to comment on. What about in September 2012, when he declined to fight a new opponent, a last-minute replacement, and forced UFC to cancel a card for the first time in their 19-year history? That’s just the ultimately meaningless stuff, things kept inside the octagon. In 2014, Jones sent homophobic slurs to a Swedish man on Instagram and then tried to pull the classic “my phone was stolen and my account was hacked.” Then, there was the hit and run. The next year Jones decided to run a red light, hit two other cars, and literally ran away, leaving an injured pregnant woman to fend for himself.

On Thursday night, news broke that Jones had tested positive twice for the M3 metabolite of oral Turanibol before UFC 235. He’s now asking for the benefit of the doubt from fans. It’s a big joke. The 31-year-old fighter has been in trouble with the World Anti-Doping Agency at least four other times, including a year-long suspension. Though because the USADA and the Nevada State Athletic Commission has deemed the positive tests to be remnants of his 2017 violation.

While the news sparked an uproar among fans, Jones simply shrugged it off.

“I’m comfortable with the idea that it’s going to be part of my career,” he said. “And I don’t know how long this is gonna last. What makes me sleep well at night is knowing that I’ve submitted myself to every test.”

On Saturday, Jones will take on Anthony Smith in a light-heavyweight title fight.
