After winning three Super Bowls with the Dallas Cowboys in the 1990s, Troy Aikman says the team needs major organizational changes if they don’t turn it around in the second half of the season.
Coach Jason Garrett consistently proves himself to be inept at coaching. The teams trade moves, like giving up a first-round pick for slumping wide receiver Amari Cooper, rarely make sense. Better wide receivers were traded for third-round picks days later. And the team’s play calling has been insane. Ezekiel Elliot had 96 yards in the first half of Monday night’s loss to the miserable Tennessee Titans. In the second half, he only got the ball six times.
Aikman listed all five of the head coaches since the team’s last Super Bowl win. “Go through the list and this team, over a long period of time, has been what it’s been,” Aikman said Tuesday. “It hasn’t always mattered who the head coach has been. So to me, if you’re asking me, I’d say there has to be a complete overhaul of the entire organization.”
Despite being a close friend of Garret, Aikman has still remained critical. Garret, who’s played three do-or-die games to make the playoffs and lost each, has no fear about losing his job.

“I’m just focused on getting our team to play as well as we can play,” said Garrett, who has a 70-58 career record, including 3-5 this season. “We’ll learn from that experience and get our eyes forward to Philadelphia.”
General Manager Jerry Jones would’ve also been fired from this team if AT&T Stadium wasn’t bizarro world or as some fans call it “Jerry World” because Jones also owns the team. Since 1996, when he first took over as GM, the team has a 187-173 record in the regular season and gone 3-9 in the postseason. If any other GM did that they’d be gone immediately. But being an owner provides the strongest job security money could buy, literally.
Aikman struggled to comment on Jones. “One thing Jerry has done over the years, whether it’s been accurate or not, is he’s done things to at least give the fan base hope going into the next year,” he said.
Jones also announced he’s going to extend the contract of struggling quarterback Dak Prescott on Tuesday. “Dak is the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys. He’s young and he’s going to get extended.” Prescott currently leads one of the worst offenses in the league. Jones called Prescott “capable, completely capable.” It seems like no one in Dallas is.
