Tommy Fleetwood Scores 23rd Ace In Masters Tournament History

On Thursday, the PGA’s Masters Tournament kicked off with surprises and highlights.

One of those highlights involved golfer Tommy Fleetwood, 30, who was struggling with a poor opening round. However, his luck changed quickly when he made a hole-in-one at the par-three 16th hole. The amazing shot sparked an uplifting mood change and provided some much-needed motivation for the golfer who had been struggling up to that point. There was nothing but smiles for Fleetwood once he realized that he had just nailed a hole-in-one.

Fleetwood’s ball sailed over the pond and avoided the bunkers and all other obstacles before bouncing into the hole.

Fleetwood made history with his hole-in-one as it became the 23rd ace in the tournament’s history. Furthermore, it marked the English golfer’s second consecutive tournament with a hole-in-one. Two weeks ago at the Match Play Championship, he also scored an ace.

Fleetwood spoke to the media about his amazing shot and making Masters history. “It’s really nice to have one at The Masters,” Fleetwood said. “I think that’s two in two consecutive weeks as well and I’m racking them up all of a sudden quickly, and I’ll try to keep it going.”

The golfer spoke about the feeling of scoring an ace in the major. “Yeah, it’s very special,” Fleetwood said. “Doing it at a major is great, doing it competitively is great, but at Augusta is probably just another edge.”

As per tradition, any golfer who makes a hole-in-one has to buy a drink for all the players. Not only that, but Fleetwood will receive the commemorative crystal vase handed out for the achievement at the Masters.

After shooting a 74 on Thursday, Fleetwood followed that up with a 70 on Friday to finish the first two days at exactly even par. He easily made the cut and will have a chance to compete for the elusive green jacket this weekend. Although he is currently seven strokes back of leader Justin Rose, stranger things have happened in golf. Maybe another hole-in-one on Saturday morning will help spark an unprecedented rally by Fleetwood. It will certainly make for interesting television this weekend.
