Tiger Woods’ DUI Arrest: Found Asleep At Wheel, Alcohol Not A Factor

After being arrested on an initial DUI charge in Jupiter, Florida, on Monday morning, court reports reveal that alcohol was not in Tiger Woods‘ system.

Woods was found asleep at the wheel, according to a police report. The pro golfer was charged with DUI from alcohol or drugs, and unlawful BAC, while also failing sobriety tests have having slow and slurred speech at the time of the arrest. Breathalyzer tests reveal that Woods had no alcohol in his system, blowing a 0.00.

The golf icon was unable to stand on one leg, touch his finger to his nose and changed the story on where he was going and where he was coming from, documents show.

Woods released a statement saying that alcohol did not result in his DUI, rather an ‘unexpected reaction to prescribed medications.’

The prescribed medication stems from the former No. 1 ranked golfer’s back surgery in April, his fourth such surgery in three years. Woods now stands at No. 876 in the world, and will not compete for the rest of the PGA Tour season due to the surgery.

Woods was booked at 7:18 p.m. and was released at 10:50 p.m. under his own recognizance, according to police reports. Woods also thanked the Jupiter Police Department and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office for their “professionalism” in the statement.

The 14-time major champion noted the benefits of his prescribed medications in a blog post from May 24. Woods will also look to make a comeback to professional golf once he fully recovers. Woods has not won a PGA Tour event since the WGC Bridgestone Invitational in 2013, and has had just one top-ten finish in 19 events since his first back surgery in 2014.

A court arraignment for Woods’ DUI is scheduled for July 5, per court records.
