St. John’s At No. 1 Villanova Basketball Preview (Feb. 7, 2018): Game Time Start, TV Channel Info

The top-ranked Villanova Wildcats will host the St. John’s Red Storm on Wednesday night, and here are some facts to know before the matchup.

Villanova vs. St. John’s Basketball preview

Villanova (22-1, 9-1 Big East) has won nine straight games. The Wildcats’ only loss was a 101-93 defeat at Butler. Wednesday’s matchup will be the third game of a four-game homestand. Villanova is coming off wide-margin victories over Creighton and Seton Hall.

St. John’s (11-13, 0-11 Big East) and Villanova previously met at Madison Square Garden on Jan. 13. The Red Storm — who sit at the bottom of their conference — lost 78-71.

The Red Storm beat No. 9 Duke 81-77 on Saturday, however.

Villanova will be hindered by injuries to Phil Booth and Jermaine Samuels, but they still face a good shot at winning on their home court on Wednesday. Booth and Samuels are both expected to return soon. Booth’s replacement in the starting lineup has been Donte DiVincenzo, who averages over 22 points per game in four career games against St. John’s.

The Red Storm, meanwhile, have been dealing with the loss of their second leading scorer Marcus LoVett, who has been ruled out for the season following a left knee MCL sprain. Three players have stepped in to replace LoVett: Shamorie Ponds, Bashir Ahmed, and Tariq Owens.
