The two first started dating in 2016 but according to Stephens, they’ve known each other since the fifth grade. However, they grew apart and couldn’t reconnect until three years ago. And even before the engagement, Stephens was incredibly thankful that they did reconnect.
“I don’t think there’s been a more positive person in my corner that I’ve had,” she said when asked about dealing with a bad foot injury that kept her from competing for 11 months.
On top of winning a Grand Slam title, Stephens also was the runner up in the 2018 French Open and a member of the 2017 championship U.S. Fed team. She has climbed to as high as No. 3 overall in her tennis career.

Altidore, at 29 years old, has carved out his place in soccer history. After joining the New York Red Bulls at 16, he quickly moved onto teams overseas, including in the English Premier league before finding a home with Toronto FC in Major League Soccer in 2015. Altidore also has the third most goals in US Men’s National Team history with 41 in 110 appearances since making his debut back in 2007.
Stephens took to Twitter on Tuesday to thank fans for the outpouring of support she saw after posting the news. She wrote: “So grateful for all of the love and support from yesterday’s announcement. Thank you guys.”
