On Tuesday, a report came out that several Raiders players attending a charity event held by teammate Darren Waller were seen breaking state and league rules by not wearing masks or face-covering in public. Team owner Mark Davis said that the team was investigating this incident. “Guys have to be more stringent in fighting the virus,” Davis told ESPN. “It’s still our toughest opponent.”
Pictured at the event are Derek Carr and Nathan Peterman, tight ends Jason Witten, Foster Moreau and Derek Carrier, receivers Zay Jones and Hunter Renfrow, and cornerback Nevin Lawson. This comes off the heel of several massive fines and strongly worded memos that the NFL has sent out to teams reminding or punishing them for violating sideline mask policies.
Also, it was reported that the Tennessee Titans and Minnesota Vikings had to close their practice facilities and delay their week four games after an outbreak of COVID that infected several Titans’ players.

With this news, it feels like the NFL is teetering a little bit. They will never stop play. Ever. But a widespread outbreak that shuts down a good chunk of the league would be an unmitigated disaster and having to cancel or postpone several games would mess up the schedule beyond recognition. They may have dodged a bullet, with the Titans outbreak seemingly being contained, but this start to the NFL season has been rocky to say the least in terms of containing COVID.
