Serena Williams Chases Down Thief Who Stole Her Cell Phone

Serena Williams, who is currently ranked No. 1 in the world in women’s singles tennis, seems to always end up on top when facing opponents of any kind. That should be noted for she has won 21 singles Grand Slam titles in her career and shows no signs of stopping. Her athleticism and mental ability play a big role in these championships, but she never thought she would have to use it outside of the tennis court when enjoying a meal.

Williams took to her official Facebook page yesterday to recount a story that involved a man who attempted to steal her phone while she was out to dine in San Francisco. The post was accompanied by a photo of herself dressed in a Superman costume because of her “superhero sense” telling her that the man was about to steal the phone. “My phone was sitting in the chair but I just didn’t feel right,” she said when the man was standing there awkwardly for a couple of moments. Not too long after, the man stole the phone and she ran out after him shortly after sprinting towards him. “He began to run but I was too fast. (Those sprints came in handy) I was upon him in a flash,” she wrote in her post.

After catching up with him, she said that she used a “menacing yet calm no nonsense voice I could muster” to ask the man “if he ‘accidentally’ took the wrong phone.” The man played it off as if he stole the wrong phone and gave it back to Williams without any conflict. Anastasia Villanueva, a waitress at the Chinese restaurant where Williams was dining, told Good Morning America that Ms. Williams said she was looking to avoid conflict with the man.
