After a disappointing season, new Seattle Mariners‘ general manager Jerry DiPoto has been trying to retool the team.
MLB executives believe that he will be moving Mark Trumbo during the winter. Despite hitting 22 homers last season, the California native looked shaky in the outfield, misjudging several fly balls and line drives. He can also play first base, however, and could be an attractive target for teams who need a corner infielder with a big bat.
If Trumbo moves out of the Pacific Northwest, the Miami Marlin‘s Marcell Ozuna could be a natural replacement. He’s comfortable in both center and right field and is known for his power hitting. While it remains to be seen if he can consistently produce runs in the cavernous confines of Safeco Field, the fact that he has reduced his strike out numbers bode well for his offensive stats.
