Seahawks Stalled On Contract Extension With Jamal Adams, Have No Desire To Extend Duane Brown

The Seattle Seahawks have made another contract offer to Pro Bowl Safety Jamal Adams. The team now awaits Adamas’ response on whether he will accept or decline the latest contract offer.

Adams is in line for an extension that would make him the league’s highest-paid safety, topping the $15.25 million-per-year average of the Denver Broncos’ Justin Simmons. Seattle and Adams’ agent began negotiating early in the offseason and continued to do so through the start of training camp until a recent period of inaction.

Left tackle Duane Brown is currently not on the Seahawks’ priority for a contract extension as the team isn’t interested in offering the 14-year veteran a new deal.

“Nothing new is happening with that at this point,” Seattle head coach Pete Carroll said when asked if an extension for Brown is under discussion or not.

Both Adams and Brown reported to training camp but have not participated in practice because of their unsettled contract situations. Both players remained spectators Tuesday for Seattle’s tenth practice.

Despite not practicing, Admas was engaging and in good spirits as he watched from the sideline. The Pro Bowler offered instructions to younger defensive backs and was engaged with his teammates and fans in attendance.

While Seattle is not interested in Brown, star quarterback Russell Wilson is. A source confirmed that Wilson told the team he is willing to move money around to clear cap room for extensions for both Adams and Brown.

On Sunday, Wilson called Brown’s absence “pretty significant” and added, “We’ve got to figure that out because we need Duane Brown.”
