The New York Jets and the Cleveland Browns have agreed to a deal that would send Calvin Pryor to Cleveland and linebacker Demario Davis back to New York, according to the New York Post.
Pryor, who the Jets selected in the first round of the 2014 draft, never cemented himself as the elite talent they expected him to be in his time in New York. Through three full seasons, the 24-year-old has only two career interceptions.
The Jets had seemingly planned for Pryor’s departure – he was scheduled to become a free agent by the end of the 2017-2018 season – when they drafted safeties Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye, out of LSU and Florida respectively. Adams was selected in the first round and Maye was selected in the second.
Davis, 28, began his career with the Jets after being drafted by the team in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft. This season will be his sixth full year in the NFL.

When Davis left New York for Cleveland in the 2016 offseason, the Jets replaced him with Erin Henderson. With Henderson out – the Jets chose not to resign him – Davis is filling a vacant position.
Like Pryor, Davis is in the final year of his contract with the Browns, which the Jets purchased in the trade. The deal is worth $3.7 million in base salary, with not a single cent guaranteed, meaning that if Davis is cut during training camp, the Jets won’t owe him any money.
With Pryor out as safety, it is likely that Adams will get the start, despite being a rookie. While the backfield of the defense is fairly young, especially with Adams, their frontline is filled with veterans, now including Davis.
