Rory McIlroy Replaces Tiger Woods As Cover Athlete On PGA Tour Video Game
Well, it looks like Tiger Woods’ reign is not only over on the golf course. EA Sports’ PGA Tour video game has used the golfer’s name and photo since its 1998 edition, but the company announced yesterday that Rory McIlroy would be the next cover athlete. This declaration is not surprising, since both Woods and EA agreed to go their separate ways in 2013.

And in the first current generation entry of the golf game — after the departure of Woods in 2013, the publisher canceled their 2014 edition to work on 2015’s version for the Playstation 4 and Xbox One — the EA Sports title will be named Rory McIlroy PGA Tour, marking the start of a new generation in both the video game and golf world.
This is basically insinuating that the Tiger’s reign ended and Rory’s is just beginning. “What is even more exciting is that this is just the beginning,” McIlroy stated in a press release. “This is EA Sports’ first golf video game on the PS4 and Xbox One. I am still only 25. We are both going to continue to grow and work to be the very best at our craft we can possibly be.”
Now, while there is not an exact release date, fans of the series should expect the latest title to be dropped sometime in June, which is wonderfully right around the corner. And for those eagerly anticipating the video game, check out this new gameplay teaser released by EA Sports.
