Roman Reigns Drop Outs Of Wrestlemania Due To Coronavirus Health Concerns

WWE Superstar Roman Reigns has dropped out of Wrestlelmania due to health concerns. Company sources told Pro Wrestling Sheet that Reigns is concerned about being immunocompromised from his previous battle with leukemia amid the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). WWE did not comment further on the matter. Reigns was scheduled to face Goldberg in a WWE Universal Title match, but will be replaced by someone else.

Reigns, known in real life as Joe Anoa’i, first contracted cancer when he was 22 years old. When it returned in October 2018, Reigns announced he would be taking time off to receive treatment and take necessary precautions. In February 2019, however, Reigns confirmed he was in remission and ready to return to the ring on a normal schedule.

WWE’s chief brand officer Stephanie McMahon told Variety this week that the company is taking the coronavirus pandemic very seriously.

“At a typical event, talent are milling about, they’re at catering or wherever when they’re not actually in part of the show,” McMahon said. “That’s not allowed now. There’s extensive testing and screening when you first come in the facility regardless of whether you’re a talent, a crew member, or anyone else. Working with our doctors, you have your temperature taken. If you have a temperature over 100.4 degrees, you are automatically asked to leave.”

She later added, “We’re taking every precaution we can. It’s also why you don’t see talent or anyone else in the audience. We really are adhering to all the guidelines that we can to maintain the health and safety of our crew and our performers.”
