Richard Sherman Calls For Owners To Speak About Racism

On Friday, the NFL released a video on social media in support of their players in peaceful protests and saying that they condemn racism. That video however only saw league commissioner Roger Goodell, speaking on behalf of the league and the owners. There are some players who say that is not enough.

On Tuesday, San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman, while speaking with the San Francisco Chronicle, said that he wants to hear directly from owners, particularly one owner. “It’s not pulling them like it is the rest of the country,” he said.” Because if it was, then they’d speak. Jerry Jones, especially, has no problem speaking up any other time about anything else. But when it’s such a serious issue, and he could really make a huge impact on it with a few words, his silence speaks volumes.”

Jones has been called out by former Cowboy Dez Bryant, who said that Jones, as well as his son Stephen Jones and former teammate Jason Witten, should attend Black Lives Matter protests to see what unity is really like.

Jones is notoriously outspoken on various issues, always available to speak to the media and has said in the past that any player who protests during the national anthem would not be allowed to play for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys did release a video last week talking about their efforts in regards to social justice, but Jones was not in the video.

Sherman said the conversation regarding racial injustice is taking a step in the right direction. “But I think this time society has moved forward to the point where they’re able to have a conversation and their family understands, ‘Hey, (black) people have had a tough go at it. They deal with inequities at all levels,” he noted. “And maybe it is time to start understanding that and seeing that even though it doesn’t affect us as much.’”
