Raptors Hope To Have Kyle Lowry Back For Playoffs After Right Wrist Surgery

All-Star guard Kyle Lowry will undergo surgery Tuesday to remove loose bodies from his right wrist, and the Toronto Raptors say they hope to have him back in time for the postseason.

Lowry, who has missed the Raptors’ two games since returning from the All-Star break, is expected to miss be out four to six weeks, a source told ESPN’s Brian Windhorst. 

The 30-year-old participated in All-Star festivities in New Orleans, competing in the 3-point contest and playing the following night in the All-Star Game. However, Lowry cited persistent soreness as a reason for getting a second opinion Monday before Toronto defeated the Knicks in New York 92-91.

“It was one of those things where we didn’t know it was as serious as it was. That’s why you get second opinions as he did and we decided — he decided to have it done now hopefully to be able to have some time before the playoffs to get some games in,” Raptors coach Dwane Casey said.

The surgery will be performed in New York.

Lowry has played hurt before, but said he knew this instance was different, and that he wasn’t surprised by the diagnosis on Monday.

“I’m not surprised by anything. It was a little sore, I didn’t know what it was,” Lowry said. “It’s not really something you can say I’m surprised. I had no idea what it would be. I thought some local treatment may have helped it, but it just wasn’t getting any better.”

The guard is second on the Raptors with his average of 22.8 points and leads Toronto with 6.9 assists per game.

The Raptors, who added forwards Serge Ibaka and P.J. Tucker before the trade deadline, were tied for third in the Eastern Conference entering their game against the Knicks.

When asked last month about President Donald Trump’s travel ban that targeted citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries, Lowry simply said, “I think it’s bull—-,” refusing to elaborate.
