Portland Trail Blazers Reportedly Offering Chandler Parsons 4-Year Contract

The Portland Trail Blazers made Chandler Parsons their top priority of free agency, meeting with the 27-year-old free agent forward in Los Angeles Thursday night, according to a report from The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Portland Trail Blazers Reportedly Offering Chandler Parsons 4-Year Contract

The Blazers’ contingent meeting with Parsons included President of Basketball Operations Neil Olshey, coach Terry Stotts, point guard Damian Lillard and team owner Paul Allen. Portland is offering a four-year contract that is worth close to the maximum allowed, according to The Vertical.

The largest contract the Blazers could offer Parsons under league rules is for four years and approximately $94.7 million.

Parsons chose not to exercise a $16 million player option in his contract with the Dallas Mavericks for the 2016-17 season, allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent. He averaged 16.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.4 assists last season in Dallas.

Parsons, a 6-foot-10, 230-pound forward, is a career 38 percent three-point shooter. He made a career-high 41.1 percent of his three-pointers with the Mavericks last season.

There is some medical risk with Parsons, who had both of his seasons in Dallas cut short by right knee injuries. He had arthroscopic surgery to repair damaged cartilage in his right knee in May 2015 and had surgery to repair a torn meniscus in the same knee in March 2016.

Parsons also plans to meet with the Memphis Grizzlies, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein.

Free agents cannot officially sign contracts until July 7.

Several other NBA players are expected to complete signing offers, with free agency beginning July 1. Dwyane Wade recently said he would consider offers from other teams as the Miami Heat’s negotiations have reportedly stalled in recent weeks.
