Disappointment loomed over Philadelphia as the Eagles were a one-and-done playoff team in 2023.
Philly started with a 10-1 record; notable victories were against the Chiefs, Dolphins, Bills and Cowboys. The Eagles went 1-5 in the remaining six games to finish 11-6 and lose the NFC East to the rival Cowboys and the NFC’s top seed to the 49ers. The Buccaneers beat the Eagles 32-9 in the wild-card game. Their late-season collapse was attributed to poor defensive play as the unit was 26th in the NFL, and eight of eleven wins were decided by one score. Following their embarrassing defeat in the wild card, Philly fired offensive coordinator Brian Johnson and defensive coordinator Sean Desai.
Former Broncos coach Vic Fangio was hired as the Eagles’ new defensive coordinator, while Kellen Moore was named the offensive coordinator. Fletcher Cox and Jason Kelce retired after spending 12 and 13 years in Philly, respectively.
The Eagles splashed by signing Saquon Barkley to a three-year deal worth $37.75 million. When healthy, Barkley is a Pro Bowl-caliber player who provides insurance to an offense containing A.J. Brown, Devonta Smith and Jalen Hurts and a top offensive line. Barkley is an immediate upgrade over D’Andre Swift, who left for the Bears in free agency. Wide receiver Devante Parker and Parris Campbell were signed to replace Quez Watkins and Olamide Zaccheaus, as they both walked in free agency. Other signings include Devin White, Bryce Huff, Mekhi Becton and Zack Baun. The Eagles traded a 2024 third-round pick and two seventh-rounders in 2025 for Kenny Pickett.

Coach Nick Sirianni has the keys to a Super Bowl appearance. However, the defense will need to step up to complement Hurts and Co. to avoid a repeat of 2023.
