Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll went on a 10-minute rant at last week’s league meeting about the NFL’s hiring of minorities—or lack thereof.
During a meeting between GMs and coaches in Palm Beach, he said that the hiring of minority candidates won’t happen until the owners accept that there are qualified candidates who are culturally different.
The comments came on the heels of the announcement that all 32 teams must hire a minority offensive assistant coach this season.
The new policy states that a coach can be “a female or a member of an ethnic or racial minority” and will be paid from a league-wide fund.
