Patrick Mahomes Restructures Massive $210 Million Deal With Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes have restructured their agreement. The deal will pay out $210.6 million between 2023 and 2026, which is the most in NFL history over a four-year span, with compensation now guaranteed. The Chiefs organization and Mahomes will then revisit their deal after the 2026 season is over.

Mahomes became the highest-paid player in the NFL when he was given a 10-year extension worth $450 million. While no player has since topped Mahomes’ contact in its total value, several NFL quarterbacks, such as Justin Herbert, Jalen Hurts and Joe Burrow, have passed Mahomes in terms of annual pay. These new quarterback contracts made Mahomes the eighth highest-paid player before the contract restructuring announcement. He will average $52.6 million over the next four seasons, making him second behind the overall average annual value of Burrow, who earns $55 million annually.

A two-time Super Bowl champion and NFL MVP, Mahomes has lit up the NFL in his first six seasons. “I don’t know that there’s really a way to quantify it financially, and no matter what he makes over his career, one way or another, he’ll be underpaid,” Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt has said about Mahomes value.

Mahomes contact ends in the 2031 season.
