The No. 2 Michigan Wolverines defeated their cross-state rival Michigan State 32-23 at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing on Saturday. The Wolverines (8-0, 5-0) repeatedly tore through the Spartans (2-6, 6th in East) defense with an unstoppable offensive precision after the midpoint of the second quarter.
“Any time you can get the ball moving on the ground, it’s demoralizing for a defense, whoever you are playing,” Michigan quarterback Wilton Speight said Saturday. “The fact it was a rivalry game, and we were kind of able to come out there and hit them in the mouth, offensive-line-wise and running-game-wise, it opened up the passing game.”
