HOUSTON, TX - DECEMBER 8: DeAndre Hopkins #10 of the Houston Texans is hit after catching a pass and has the ball knocked Kareem Jackson #22 of the Denver Broncos during the first half at NRG Stadium on December 8, 2019 in Houston, Texas. The Broncos defeated the Texans 38-24.
Denver Broncos safety, Kareem Jackson, was suspended two games by the NFL Tuesday, after violating the league’s substance abuse policy. On September 19, Jackson was arrested on suspicion that he was driving while intoxicated.
“Kareem Jackson of the Denver Broncos has been suspended without pay two games for violating the NFL Policy and Program on Substances of Abuse,” an NFL spokesperson said in a statement. “The suspension begins immediately and runs through the remainder of the regular season.”
According to the Denver district attorney’s office, Jackson pleaded guilty Monday to one count of driving under the influence of alcohol. His sentence requires 12 months of supervised probation, 24 hours of public service and participation with Mothers Against Drunk Driving’s victim impact panel.
Jackson tweeted an apology to the organization on Tuesday that stated, “I would like to apologize to the Broncos organization, my teammates and fans. I understand the severity in my lapse of judgement and I will certainly not make this mistake again. I know I am fortunate to play in the NFL and am held to a high standard of professionalism and conduct.”

Through 13 games this season, the 31-year-old has two interceptions, one forced fumble and an offensive touchdown. Jackson spent the last nine years in Houston before signing a three-year, $33 million contract with Denver last March. He will miss the final two games at home against Detroit and Oakland.
