New York Yankees Manager Aaron Boone Renews Contract Until 2024

On Tuesday, manager Aaron Boone signed a three-year contract extension with the New York Yankees.

Boone was called up to lead the Yankees as manager on Dec. 4, 2017, after ownership decided not to extend Joe Gerardi‘s contract. Since Boone’s inaugural season, he has maintained a winning record (328-218) in the regular season. He and the Yankees have also made post-season appearances in all of his four seasons and reached the ALCS in 2019. Their run eventually came to an end at the hands of a talented Houston Astros team – the series ended 4-2.

The Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner commented on the renewed contract by highlighting some of Boone’s managerial qualities. “We have a person and manager in Aaron Boone who possesses the baseball acumen and widespread respect in our clubhouse to continue to guide us forward,” he said. “As a team and as an organization, we must grow, evolve and improve. We need to get better. Period. I know Aaron fully embraces our expectations of success, and I look forward to drawing on his intelligence, instincts and leadership in pursuit of our next World Series championship.”

The Yankees ended their 2021 season in the American League Wild Card Game against the Boston Red Sox. They ultimately fell behind early in the game and were unable to gain momentum which resulted in a 6-2 loss. The Red Sox are still fighting through the playoffs and are currently in an advantageous 2-1 position in the ALCS against the Astros.
