The New York Jets have put an end to Adam Gase‘s tenure as head coach after two disappointing seasons. On Sunday, the team released a statement by CEO and owner Christopher Johnson announcing the decision.
In the released statement, Johnson said, “It is clear the best decision for the Jets is to move in a different direction.” Johnson would add on his disappointment in the lack of team progress, “Our strong finish last year was encouraging, but unfortunately, we did not sustain that positive momentum or see the progress we all expected this season.”
Gase was brought in by the team to help build a better offensive and help build the game of quarterback Sam Darnold. However, he was unable to achieve those goals that were reasons to hire him.
Darnold’s first season showed some improvement as New York finished the season with seven wins and nine losses. Prior to his arrival, the Jets only had won four games and lost 12 games. Darnold improved the win total by three but the team struggled this season. The Jets finished the season with a franchise-record of 13 straight losses and winning just one game and 15 losses. Moreover, the team missed out on getting the first pick to possibly draft Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
