New York Giants Sign CB Adoree’ Jackson To Three-Year, $39 Million Deal

The New York Giants are continuing their big offseason, and the latest signing is cornerback Adoree’ Jackson. So far, the Giants’ offseason has involved the team spending huge money to strengthen their roster.

Jackson agreed to join New York on a three-year deal worth $39 million with $26.5 million guaranteed.

Jackson’s contract with the Giants highlights a recurring theme that has defined the team’s free agency moves. That theme is spending big money. New York has now spent approximately $123 million in guaranteed money over the past week. The team now trails behind the New England Patriots and rival Dallas Cowboys in terms of spending.

Big Blue’s big-spending could be attributed to the Giants narrowly missing out on the playoffs in 2020. Last season, the G-Men finished second in the weakened NFC East. The latest signings, including their biggest free-agent acquisition Kenny Golladay, are meant to push the team over the top and into the postseason.

Jackson was a surprise player in the free-agent market this offseason. The Tennessee Titans had picked up the cornerback’s fifth-year option for 2021, but the Titans suddenly released him before his contract could become guaranteed. The move saved Tennessee $10 million in salary-cap space.

Once the cornerback became the latest addition to the free-agency pool, the Giants showed immediate interest. The two sides met on Monday to engage in contract talks and were able to reach an agreement fairly quickly.

“I do want to win and talking to Coach Judge and seeing what he did last year, and then understanding that I’ve been through that process,” Jackson said in a conference call. “The first year in, probably didn’t go how you wanted it, but having a foundation and being able to build on that foundation, and having guys around that I’ve talked to that say they understand what he’s looking for and what he wants – just everybody being on the same page and being cohesive, that’s the biggest thing.”

“You having guys that compete, guys that are ballplayers like the Giants have, you want to be a part of that and you want to play with guys like that and be a part of that team,” Jackson said.

The Giants still have a few holes to fill on both sides of the ball, but now the team’s secondary looks fairly solid. New York will attempt to bolster the roster in the 2021 NFL Draft.
