New Brooklyn Nets general manager Sean Marks made his first move on Saturday, waiving Italian forward Andrea Bargnani, a 10-year NBA veteran who has struggled during the past season.
Bargnani, 30, signed a two-year, veterans minimum contract with the Nets in July 2015, and averaged 6.6 points on 45.5 percent shooting and 2.1 rebounds in 13.8 minutes over 46 games this season.
The 7-foot-tall forward was the top overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft by the Toronto Raptors, with whom he spent seven season until being traded to the New York Knicks in 2013.
During his two seasons with the Knicks, Bargnani suffered a left elbow ligament tear and a right calf strain that forced him to stay on the sidelines. Bargnani has averaged 14.3 points and 4.6 rebounds over the course of his entire career in the NBA.
