Skinner was not selected to compete in the 2012 Olympic trials. She was chosen as an alternate for the 2016 Rio Games, but did not have an official spot on the team. After watching from the stands as the U.S. team took home the gold in Rio in 2016, Skinner left professional gymnastics and went to college. She won two NCAA titles for Utah. She eventually annouced she would be returning to elite gymnastics after her junior year, with a specific focus on the 2020 Tokyo Games. Skinner wanted to make her childhood dreams of making the Olympics come true. She trained hard but came up short on Sunday, failing to win a medal.
