Mets’ Mendoza Will Talk to Soto About His Lack Of Hustle

New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said he will talk to Mets star Juan Soto about hustling out of the batter’s box following the Mets’ 3-1 loss to the Boston Red Sox on Monday.

Soto hit an almost home run line drive, watching the ball bounce off the Green Monster for a single that likely should’ve been more.

“He thought he had it,” Mendoza said. “In this ballpark with that wall right there, you gotta get out of the box. We’ll discuss that.”

Soto stole second base and ended up being left stranded on third. He had a different view of what happened.

“I think I’ve been hustling pretty hard,” Soto said. “If you see it today, you could tell.”

After losing four of their last five games and the Philadelphia Phillies winning four straight games, the Mets are no longer in first place in the NL East.

Soto is batting .246 with eight home runs this season. He signed a 15-year, $765 million deal with the Mets in the offseason.

Despite the lofty contract, many have been disappointed by Soto’s performance through nearly 50 games. His apparent lack of urgency getting out of the batter’s box is another added factor.
