“It’s a little different atmosphere than Texas, that’s for sure. The vibe around the Mets when we were watching them last year from Houston, they looked like they were playing with some hunger and some passion. I’m excited to come in and add to that. It’s something I didn’t expect on this day. It was a little surprising, but it’s a welcome change,” Marisnick told MLB.com.

Marisnick finished the season with 16 doubles and ten stolen bases with a .700 OPS, giving the Mets get much needed depth for their outfield. General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen emphasized the importance of defense in the outfield, and that has to be the driving force behind acquiring him. Marisnick ranked at the top of the league in outs above average, sprint speed and outfielder jump this past season, according to SNYtv.com.  The latter measures how quickly an outfielder moves towards a ball that has been hit.

“It’s a big part of my game, going out and taking care of the baseball. It’s something I prided myself in coming up, and my years with the Astros, it’s been something that’s been big for me and big for them. So I’m excited to bring that over, hopefully come in and add a spark, have some fun and bring some energy,” said Marisnick.

“Among our offseason plans was to improve defensively, and he is one of the best in the game,” Van Wagenen told the media. The GM praised Marisnick calling him “an elite defender who is an incredibly smart baserunner.”
